5 Pints

That's how much blood Richard Zednik lost after a freak accident where a teammate's skate cut his carotid artery. This happened back on the 11th, he's now been discharged from Buffalo General Hospital where he received life-saving surgery. You've probably seen the video by now, but I'm not going to post it because I had to turn away from the TV when they showed it on PTI the other day. The crowd's reaction in the photo in this article tells you all you need to know. I think most of the time we forget just how dangerous sports, especially hockey, can be. This was quite a reminder.

If you had to turn away from the Zednik accident, then there is no way you want to see goaltender Clint Malarchuk when he had his jugular sliced in a 1989 game against the St. Louis Blues, also in B-lo. Now that was sick. I read an article that said 11 people fainted and 2 had heart attacks at that game. I could barely stomach watching it on YouTube.
