Nemesis

Do you know what "hubris" means? Overweening pride, self-confidence, or arrogance. And there's no team, or group of fans, that's traditionally displayed this trait more than the Michigan Wolverines.

Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by a group of angry young men wearing green and white. Hubris has provoked nemesis, and it's time for Michigan to pay.

I wrote earlier in the week that Rob Parker was exactly right when he wrote that the Spartans must rout the Wolverines. I would go further. Some of the Michigan players have talked about getting back on track on Saturday, getting a winning streak going and earning a bowl berth. They're hosting their biggest recruiting weekend of the season. The Spartans have to crush their spirits and their bodies. Break them. They need to finish off the wounded rodent. No mercy. Fifty years from now, old Michigan fans in their rocking chairs should wince when they remember the beating the Wolverines took on 10/25/2008. I want to hear the Wolverine fans crying, even here in Iowa. Plant the Spartan flag (metaphorically speaking). Give them nothing. But take from them, everything!
