Third Time's the Charm

The Red Wings have decided that Dominik Hasek is the answer to their goal-tending woes. Osgood will also remain with the team. Hasek played with Ottawa last season, so the big question is whether he can stay healthy long enough to make an impact.

Hasek's signing wasn't the only player movement in Detroit today. The Tigers traded AA right-hander Brian Rogers to the Pirates for left-handed bat Sean Casey. Chris Shelton was demoted to make room on the roster.

The Lions, not wanting to be left out, signed 1st-round pick Ernie Sims to a five-year contract. Technically this happened yesterday, but I'm betting you weren't paying close enough attention to notice.
