"In 1948, former Indiana University coach Alvin (Bo) McMillin took over the Lions and changed their uniform colors to scarlet and white so they resembled the Hoosiers. He gave them all-black uniforms for big games, and they wore four combinations of the three colors."
I knew that they wore red for a time, but I had forgotten about the black. Here's a picture of the new ones:
