The Mile High Club

I've been checking out hypothetical airline ticket prices for a weekend flight to New York for a baseball game in August. I've tried nearly every permutation (or combination) possible of airports from the state of Michigan to New York, and all the possibilities of departures (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) and possible return flights (Saturday, Sunday, or Monday). I've even pretended that the weekend game was in April and did all the same calculations. I even tried 1 weekend from now to see if that made much of a difference in price either.

No.

The best prices I could find were for flights out of Detroit (no matter day/time) in August. However, no price was better than $203/ticket.

So, where we driving to this year? Toronto? Philadelphia? New York?

It's probably worth noting that I'll have to take a large chunk of my vacation sometime in the last 2 weeks of July. I don't know specifics, but it might be worth considering.

I am also expecting to free up a 10 day gap in the second half of July as well.

Driving to Toronto would require a passport at over $100, just to throw that cost factor out there. So paying for a plane ticket or passport. Anywhere other then Philly would mean plane tickets. Start saving boys

I hate to say it, but if we're going to seriously start talking about flying, I might be out. We've had a good run, but if trips start running over $300 I think it's more than I can take. I can probably afford it (because of the lack of kids and wife), but I'm not sure it's worth it.

I just want to be clear: I still want to something and I'd like to do a ballpark trip if we can make it work. But I'm sure I have more disposable income than the rest of you guys and that much money still makes me think twice about it. I imagine it's a lost worse for those of you making house playments and taking care of children. Maybe there's an alternative if a ballpark trip doesn't work? Also, I don't think it's too far to St. Louis from here.

I've somewhat thought about an alternative as well. I'm on board with anything but an airplane at this point. Looking at everyone else, the summer really doesn't have to be the only time zone to work with.

We've had a great run and I don't want it to end, but we can't be too naive.

I understand all the comments above and whatever happens is fine with me*.

HOWEVER, this is NEW YORK. I'm fine after this year with not flying ever again. THIS IS NEW YORK. We could even skip a Mets game to save money, that's fine with me. Last year of Yankee Stadium. The pinnicle of stadiums. I hate the yankees but I still would like to see it. Why dont we look at driving again. Maybe that's not economical, I dont know. Divided 6 ways it can't be that bad. I know its time thats also somewhat important. Believe me I'm not begging to shell out a bunch of money but for this "With the fellas" I would. For our "10 Year Anniversary" or whatever its been. Loyality to the family. I would. Nobody wants to shell out big money for the trip however everybody probably has something they could sacrifice for some extra cash. Myself included.

*I dont want to see this end and if we need to do something different because of cost or schedule that's fine.

Its the memories that make Life Good.
