Or so
says David Stern. Well, maybe not in so many words. The short version: American kids learn flash and not substance when playing basketball growing up, foreigners learn fundamentals. Talent isn't enough to keep you going in a league like the NBA, so foreigners are slowly becoming a larger part of the NBA, up to about 20% of players now. Less Americans=less interest from fans. So you can see whey Stern is a little upset. But can anything be done?

One word Mr. Stern: Darko.
What can be done about the situation? Well, let's look at the NFL. No player is allowed to be drafted within 3 years of graduating high school. I'd like to require all NBA players to have at least 3 years of college experience before "jumping" to the NBA.
Or, blackball the "street-ball" players by "encouraging" GM's to not draft any American's under the age of 21 or to only draft foreign players.
But, is college too late? Duke seems to run a very fine program. Highly successful every season, lots of sophomores and juniors on the team, but can never get anywhere in the tournament. What does that tell you? I'm not sure, but I now Coach K strays away from the "streetballers" as much as possible and goes with the white dudes with all the "fundamentals."
Well, after my "comment", I really don't think I added anything to help the situation. Sorry Mr. Stern.
