It doesn't happen often, but I'm almost completely in agreement with Lynn Henning. I write "almost" because I'm not near as certain as Henning (...Michigan is sure to return soon enough to its old glory...)
that it is a foregone conclusion that Michigan will return to form.

It's a lose-lose situation. College football has to have OSU v UM every year. To outsiders, the date probably doesn't matter. But to the Big Ten and the states of Michigan/Ohio, it does. You certainly don't want back-to-back games. But, I'm not excited about an October game with the possibility of a rematch in late November. Especially if they don't meet up in the championship game. I'd rather gamble on an OSU/UM Big Ten Championship than play the game in October or any other time.
But again, you run the major risk of college football losing a huge rivarly game, even if it is at the expense of a bigger finale, (with higher stakes) the Big Ten championship.
Just keep them in the same division and play at the end of the season. Sure, there's no way they can play in the actual championship game, but worst case that game becomes the de facto championship and then they can still hype the actual championship game. It seemed to work fine for the Big (10) Twelve with Oklahoma and Texas. The other division should still be plenty competitive with Wisconsin and Iowa.
