For those living outside of Cass City, here is a quick recap of the 2009 Varsity baseball season. Keep in mind, our record last year was 9-21 overall, and 1-9 in conference play:
16 Official Games
6-10 overall
0-5 league record
"Fun" stats:
5 of our 10 losses have come by one run. (We had a 3-game losing streak of one run.)
Another loss was by two runs.
Number of victories by one run: ZERO
Number of victories by two runs: ONE
We just lost to Bay City All-Saints tonight (they were the 2008 Division 4 State Champions).
Game 1: 5-6 (We scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning. BCAS scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning to grab the lead.)
Game 2: 1-10. Enough said.
Of the 11 total innings that we played tonight against BCAS, the lead-off hitter each inning for BCAS got on base NINE times. That's a bunch of crap.
Last season, we gave up 3 or more runs in the 1st inning 16 times out of 30 games. We lost 84% of the time when we gave up 3+ runs in the 1st inning, whether they batted first or not.
This season, we've given up 3+ runs only 3 times. We've lost 2 and one game didn't count as an official game.
On the flip side, we've scored 2 or more runs in the 1st inning 5 times. Our record: 1-4 (that includes tonights 4-run first inning loss).
Positive Notes:
We have a freshman on the team. Let's just say we tell the defense, "Fence, coming your way!" He's got some power.
